And here is just one example of our many itineraries The Highland Journey 7 Day Golf and Sightseeing in Scotland This holiday combines seeing the beauty of Scotland, from the cities, to the Highlands and Royal Deeside, with playing some of the best golf courses. Four and Five star hotels have been chosen throughout, which we know will give the best of Scottish hospitality and service. Day 1. Saturday. Arrive at Edinburgh or Glasgow airports in the morning and transfer to The Roxburghe Hotel, Edinburgh for 2 night stay. The Roxburghe is situated on Charlotte Square, the financial heartland of Edinburgh, and only a few steps from Princes Street and Gardens. In the afternoon, golfers transfer to Dalmahoy Hotel for 18 holes of golf. Evening free. Day 2. Sunday. A full day`s sightseeing in Edinburgh. Take the open topped bus tour through the Old and New Towns, visit the Castle, The Palace of Holyrood House (The Queen`s Scottish home) or the many museums and art galleries. The Royal Yacht Britannia is moored in Leith harbour. Day 3. Monday. Towards the Highlands. Drive north for about 2 hours to arrive and stay one night at The Gleneagles Resort Hotel. The golfers may choose between the three championship courses (The Kings, The Queens or The Monarch, but let us know in advance) while the non golfers can enjoy the spa facilities or many other sporting facilities. Day 4. Tuesday. And into the Highlands. A morning stop at the smallest distillery in Scotland near Pitlochry is followed by a lunch time stop at The House of Bruar for the very best of shopping and Scottish cuisine. Blair Castle is nearby and can also be visited. Continue past the ski slopes of Glenshee and along Royal Deeside. In the early summer, Balmoral Castle (the Scottish Holiday home of the Queen) can be visited. Stop for one night at the Balgonie Country House, Ballater, a lovely small hotel on the banks of the river Dee. Day 5. Wednesday. After breakfast, head south again over the hills to enjoy a round of golf at Carnoustie, the home of The Open 1999 and where the Frenchman came unstuck in the Barry Burn. After golfing, continue through Dundee into the Kingdom of Fife for a three night stay at Balbirnie House Hotel. It is set in a 400 acre park, being a listed Georgian country house and 5 star hotel that has many awards for excellence. With only 30 rooms, it is listed as one of the small luxury hotels of the world. Day 6. Thursday. For the next two days, the non-golfers have a feast of opportunities for sightseeing and shopping. Accompany the golfers to St.Andrews, the home of golf, travel again to Edinburgh (1 hour) or see Stirling Castle. See Captain Scott`s (of the Antarctic) ship Discovery in Dundee. To-day the golfers travel to Kingsbarns (45 minutes). The most highly regarded `new` links course in Scotland, this course has recently been reopened after 50 years of closure. On the return journey to Balbirnie, a short stop can be made in St.Andrews to sample the atmosphere. Day 7. Friday. To St.Andrews. Golf will be on The Dukes Course, a magnificent parkland course on the edge of the town, designed by Peter Thompson. There will also be plenty time to go to the British Golf Museum and see all the sites of the famous town. On request, we will enter golfers in the ballot for The Old Course (a public course). If this is successful and depending on tee times offered (only 24 hours before) it may be possible to play 36 holes, or have to forfeit the green fee for the Dukes. Supplement for The Old Course is from £85, payable on the day of play. Day 8 Saturday. Depart from Edinburgh or Glasgow airports. Based on 2 sharing, prices will include 7 nights bed and breakfast, and dinner on three nights at Balbirnie, green fees and ground transport throughout.
